Visit to Kings College Chapel

By courtesy of the Dean we are invited to visit the Chapel of Kings College on Thursday 11th September at 10.00am to contemplate the world-famous stained and painted glass.   Tudor art, technology and sheer engineering achievement are enshrined here, but the windows tell a story of human struggles, endeavours, religious convictions, politics and dynastic ambition.   We will have the privilege of spending time with these masterpieces of glass art and hearing something of their story.

Dr Carola Hicks has recently published her definitive account of the glazing – her book, “The King’s Glass” is readily available (cover price £18.99 in the UK) and would be ideal preparatory reading if you plan to come on this visit.   We hope to meet Dr Hicks and hear her view of this stunning example of the History & Heritage of Glass.

The story of this magnificent building, its construction during a century of political turmoil, its near miraculous survival when other churches and glazing schemes were wilfully destroyed and its continuing use in the twenty first century is available on the Chapel website at http://www.kings.cam.ac.uk/chapel/
